ORAL CANCER

Oral Cancer is a serious preventable disease. Compared to most other cancers, the survival rate has not improved in decades despite modern methods of treatment mainly due to late diagnosis.
Early lesions are generally painless. Ulcers (sores) that don’t heal within two weeks or persistent white or red patches must be examined by an oral surgeon and biopsied for microscopic evaluation by a trained oral pathologist.
“Statistically, one person dies every hour of every day with oral cancer”

WHAT IS PATHOLOGY?

It is the cornerstone of medicine, “a bridging discipline involving both, basic science and clinical medicine. It is devoted to the study of the structural and functional changes that underlie disease. By the use of molecular, microbiologic, immunologic, and morphologic techniques, pathology explains the whys and wherefores of ailments aiming to provide a sound foundation for rational clinical care and therapy”. (Pathologic Basis of Disease. Robbins, Cotran, Kumar & Collins)
